Championing Hope

For many children, sports are more than just games; they represent teamwork, confidence, and lifelong memories. But for young Eli, sports, especially hockey, became a lifeline during a tumultuous time in his life.

A New Beginning Through Hockey

In 2020, Eli faced immense challenges as his mother struggled with homelessness, addiction, and mental illness. This led to Laura, his grandmother, and her husband becoming his guardians. Amidst this turmoil, hockey emerged as a therapeutic outlet for Eli, helping him channel his emotions and pain into something constructive.

Athletics4Kids: A Helping Hand

As Eli’s love for hockey grew, so did the financial challenges for Laura and her husband, who were adjusting to their new roles as guardians in retirement. Athletics4Kids stepped in at this crucial juncture, offering a Sport4Life Grant, made possible by generous donors. This support was instrumental in allowing Eli to continue his hockey journey.

More Than a Game

Through hockey, Eli found a way to navigate his emotions positively. It provided him with a community, friendships, and an avenue to expend energy in a healthy way. For children like Eli, especially those from challenging backgrounds, such connections and activities are invaluable.

Breaking Barriers

Contributions from generous donors have been crucial in dismantling financial obstacles for families, providing children like Eli the chance to engage in sports and flourish. The collective support and kindness of the community have significantly improved the lives of numerous children, with profound gratitude extended for this ongoing generosity.

A Heartfelt Thank You

The journey of Eli and others like him underscores the transformative power of sports and community support. Thanks to the Port Moody Foundation and its donors, Athletics4Kids continues to offer hope and new beginnings for children in need.
