A legacy of caring and commitment
Founded in 1989, the Port Moody Foundation emerged during the city’s planning of a new city hall/library complex. Recognizing the need for more than basic amenities in a community of about 16,000, our founders were driven to enhance local facilities through innovative funding methods. This vision was further fueled by the pride following Tracy Wilson’s 1988 Olympic success, leading the Foundation to support aspiring athletes and invest in Port Moody’s growth.
Key early projects, especially between 1990-93, included the Inlet Theatre and Library, where community-driven fundraising initiatives provided advanced features. Contributions from individuals and significant donations from Parklane Homes played a crucial role. Today, our Foundation, with an endowment exceeding $500,000, continues its mission across various sectors: youth, seniors, health, homelessness, arts, culture, and sports, creating a legacy of engagement and impactful change.
Making a difference, together
At the heart of the Port Moody Foundation’s work are two guiding principles: identifying the community’s most immediate, pressing needs and engaging with like-minded individuals and local organizations to bring scarce resources into play to address those needs. Our impact stories highlight how these joint efforts are crafting a lasting legacy in arts, culture, and beyond.
“Families are struggling to put food on the table — there’s no money for sports. Through your Sport4Life Grants, we aren’t just building the love of sport — we are building amazing humans.”
